How to Remove Silences in Premiere Pro (Manual, Built-In, and AI Methods)
Three ways to cut dead air from a long recording, from the razor tool to text-based editing to a single prompt, and when to use each.
Dead air is the fastest thing to cut and the most tedious to find. Here are three approaches, ordered from most control to most speed.
The manual pass
- Expand the audio track height so waveforms are readable
- Use the Razor tool (C) at the start and end of each gap
- Select the gaps and use Ripple Delete (Shift + Delete)
Text-based editing
Premiere Pro's Text panel can transcribe your sequence and surface pauses. You can select pauses in the transcript and delete them, which is faster than scanning waveforms.
A single prompt
Remove every silence longer than 0.6 seconds and leave 4 frames of padding.
